LRIT – Are you ready?

Sep 12, 2008 0 Comments by nathan

If you own or operate a vessel over 300 GRT, a passenger ship including high speed passenger craft, or a mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU), which is engaged in an international voyage, then you need to be ready for Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT).  In particular, you need to be ready by December 31, 2008.

Essentially, you need to make sure you have an INMARSAT C terminal capable of transmitting position reports through automated satellite polling.
