Coast Guard Cutter collides with ferry

Morro Bay damageThe 140ft Coast Guard buoy tender “Morro Bay” collided with the 175ft Block Island ferry running from Point Judith Rhode Island, to Block Island. Fog had reduced visibility down to about 200 yards at the time of the incident. Apparently the Coast Guard Cutter had just finished a change of command ceremony in Newport and was returning to New London. LT Douglass Wyatt had just assumed command of the vessel. Although no injuries were reported, and damage appears to be fairly minimal, this certainly is a horrible start for LT Wyatt’s tenure as Commanding Officer of the Morro Bay. More on the collision can be found here.
