MSC demonstrates it doesn’t always need a dock

The MSC operated USNS Pililaau, a large, medium-speed, roll-on/roll-off ship, has recently completed an exercise off Camp Pendleton, CA demonstrating the capability to delivery a large volume of military cargo ashore without the benefit of a deepwater port.  The ship, anchored about 2 NM offshore, offloaded armored vehicles onto a floating platform at its stern, where a ferry then transported the loads to shore.  Read more about the exercise here.
