President Barack Obama meets with Richard Phillips, the captain of the U.S. cargo ship that was held hostage by pirates last month, in the Oval Office of the White House on May 9, 2009. Phillips was joined by his wife, Andrea. (Official White House photo by Pete Souza)

It’s not everyday that an active Merchant Mariner has a one-on-one with the President of the United States.  Saturday was the exception for Captain Richard Phillips of the Maersk Alabama.  For a short portion of an hour, Captain Phillips had the ear of the leader of the free world.  The White House did not release what was discussed in their conversation but I’m sure it was interesting.
